What to do in Dinagyang Festival 2016?
Are you ready for another adrenaline rush at 2016 Dinagyang Festival?
January – the atmosphere is now filled with enthusiasm for this year’s most anticipated tourism event – Dinagyang Festival! The dagyang fever has once again gripped the metro and if you’re planning to visit Iloilo City, prepare your itinerary and fill your calendar with the most jam packed festival in the Philippines.
Aside from the metro’s fine dining and street food, there will be food bazaars this January. There will be a food festival and street party at SM City Iloilo Parking Lot on January 22 to 24, and a three-day (also on January 22 to 24) food bonanza at Delgado Street sponsored by Iloilo Hotel Resort and Restaurant Association (IHRRA).
Never forget to visit our local pasalubong stores – take home to your family and friends the crunchy biscocho, piaya, pinasugbo and barquillos. Experience our very own La Paz Batchoy, Pancit Molo, and of course the famous manok nasal.
As a cultural and a religious festival, events in Dinagyang also include the city’s devotion to Senor Sto Nino. Visit the San Jose Church at Plaza Libertad and together pray the Santo Nino Novenas starting on January 11.
This January 17 will be the Sto Nino De Arevalo fiesta at Villa.
Another significant event is the arrival of the pilgrimage image of Sto Nino De Cebu.
Join thousands of devotees on this year’s Fluvial Procession on the beautiful Iloilo River this coming January 22, and the religious fervor of dancing in honor of Sto Nino or Sadsad on the evening of the 23rd.
PARTY and WATCH FIREWORKS
Be prepared to be amazed as Iloilo City paints the night sky with its beautiful fireworks display. The “Luces in the Sky” is an annual fireworks display competition held at the carpark area of SM City Iloilo. Take the best spot and watch the colorful display of lights this January 22.
Looking for nightlife fun? Smallville’s discos and clubs will surely be a hit with numerous parties and musicfests that will last all night long.
Bring home the Ilonggo experience by buying yourself souvenirs. Available are Dinagyang Collectibles at malls or at IDFI offices. Handicrafts? Check out the Iloilo Central Market, the CM Bamboo Crafts at La Paz, or Tinukib Showroom in Pavia.
The Dinagyang experience will never be complete without the feverish street dancing.
This coming December 11, 2015, the city will get a taste of the coming festivity with the Pamukaw (3pm). All competing tribes will participate in the parade at the downtown to give a glimpse of their performances.
Feel the drum-beating and exotic choreography of our Ati Warriors and dancers on Opening Salvo (January 8 Afternoon) and festival’s highlight, the Ati Dance Competition (January 24 Morning).
A glimpse of the region’s most cherished festivals can be experienced by watching the Kasadyahan Regional Cultural Competition on January 23 Morning.
Join the unending street dancing with the festival’s sponsors on Mardi Gras in the afternoon of the 23rd.
Parade route will start from the Freedom Grandstand going to the Iloilo Capitol through Calle Real, proceeding to Delgado-Mabini intersection, then to Ledesma-Quezon area near intersection, and finally to Iznart Street (near Maria Clara) beside Iloilo Central Market. Tickets are available at IDFI and at Iloilo City Hall Tourism Office.
After a month-long partying and merry making, its perfect time to escape into our tropical paradise at Guimaras. Take your pick among the island’s kilometers of coast line and, relax and refresh yourself before heading home.
